Savour the best and authentic Indian food in Washington

The concept of “Unity in Diversity” is truly unique to India and this is demonstrated well in aspects. The country has a rich collection of languages as it varies from place to place. Even the people of the south are different from that of the north and those from the east differ from the east. Yet there is a thread of oneness that runs from the length and breath of the country. Even when it comes to food, there are different varieties of it that one can relish as each region has its one speciality to offer. The different parts of India have different climatic conditions which has given rise to its own unique gastronomical delight. Those who have grown up on this taste find it very hard to substitute it with other flavours of the world. To the extent of experimentation or occasional eating it is fine but on a regular basis they definitely prefer the food which is closer to home.

The fiery and feisty climate of India is reflected on its food too. Infact the heart of almost any Indian dish is the spices used during its preparation. From ancient times this country has been in the eyes of foreigners because of the aromatic and flavourful seasonings. Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, pepper, turmeric, coriander, cumin, cardamom, garlic, ginger, bay leaves and chiles are some of the most commonly used spices in Indian cooking. Also other condiments such as black, brown and white mustard, celery seed, paprika, saffron and tamarind are also frequently used. One substance that is inevitable to Indian cooking is the masala which is basically a premade blend of spices. Different reasons have certain additions or substructions such as coconut and certain types of nuts but masala is common. This is because spices complement each other and produce fantastic dishes.

There are very distinct features of the Indian cuisine such as the fragrant spices and smooth as well as creamy sauces. The basic components of the Indian gastronomy consist of a variety of breads, sauces and relishes. A typical feature of the Indian fare is that pickles complement the main foods. It is indeed an assortment of colours, smells, flavours and textures as it the Indian meal plays to almost all the senses. Indian food in Washington can be savoured without losing the authentic taste. Native food in a foreign land is indeed bliss and nothing can make a man/woman happier than this.
